Features of Edutest for MLC Scholarship - School Entrance Test for Private and Selective Schools in Melbourne

The MLC School Scholarship Test has changed from the previous ACER format to Edutest. These exams differ in content and format. Here are key points to help you prepare for Edutest:

  • Reading Comprehension While similar to ACER, Edutest includes more varied question types, focusing on structure analysis, inference, and detailed understanding.

  • Mathematical Reasoning Edutest emphasises solving practical problems quickly and accurately, testing candidates' rapid response and logical precision under pressure.

  • Writing Task Reduced from two essays to one, Edutest challenges students to showcase cohesive arguments and vocabulary within a shorter time frame, testing creativity and organisation.

  • Volume & Timing Edutest often has stricter time limits and higher question counts, requiring efficient, quick responses.

  • Adaptability to Varied Question Types With more flexible, diverse questions than ACER, Edutest demands practice in swiftly adjusting between question formats.

MLC's choice of Edutest over ACER likely reflects several key considerations:

  • Multidimensional Skills Assessment Edutest emphasises flexibility and diversity in question types, with a stronger focus on logical and abstract reasoning. This allows MLC to identify students with creative thinking, analytical skills, and practical problem-solving abilities.

  • Score Sharing Advantage Edutest scores can be shared with multiple schools. This flexibility reduces exam stress for students and increases their preference for Edutest, attracting more top candidates seeking quality educational resources.

  • Alignment with Future Education Trends Edutest focuses on adaptability and holistic skills, helping MLC select students with critical thinking and practical application abilities, aligning with the demand for well-rounded talents in future education.

As one of Melbourne's most respected all-girls' schools, MLC offers an unparalleled environment for scholarship students to excel. At MLC, students will find like-minded peers, a diverse and inclusive community, exceptional teachers, and outstanding curricular and co-curricular opportunities that amplify their abilities and strengths.

Students are expected to take advantage of the vast learning enrichment opportunities and participate in the co-curricular activities offered by the College, demonstrating their commitment to College life and academic goals.

Shortlisted candidates display the MLC values of respect, responsibility, compassion, and courage.

Scholarship Test Preparation Strategy

  1. Practice with Mock Exams Familiarize yourself with Edutest's flexible question types and answer formats. Working through Edutest sample or practice exams helps students understand exam expectations and improves speed and efficiency through repeated practice.

  1. Enhance Reading Comprehension and Writing Skills The Edutest reading section emphasizes structure and logical analysis, while the writing section tests creative thinking and language skills. Students should practice argumentative or narrative writing to improve clarity and coherence, focusing on logical flow.

  1. Strengthen Mathematical Reasoning and Abstract Logic Edutest math and logic sections are more complex than ACER, covering pattern recognition and visual reasoning. Targeted training can enhance problem-solving skills, familiarising students with specific question types and techniques in logical reasoning.

  1. Focus on Time Management and Mental Readiness With Edutest's tight timing, students need to handle a high volume of questions in limited time. Multiple mock exams and time-management strategies, combined with stress resilience, help students adapt to high-pressure conditions and perform consistently during the actual test.
