CHAPTER 2: THREADS

Every story can inspire.

What will yours become?

Qs School is excited to officially launch the Term 2 Writing Project, the second chapter of our 2026 Family Tapestry annual project.

Following Term 1’s chapter, Origins, where students explored their family roots and stories, we now move into Term 2 with a deeper focus on Threads for expression and meaningful impact.

We warmly invite students from all 10 Qs campuses to take part in this meaningful writing journey. Through words, students will be encouraged to reflect on family, culture, love, identity and responsibility — weaving together the stories that connect who we are, where we come from and the future we hope to shape.

Writing is not only a way to record memories. It is also a way for students to understand themselves, connect with others and express what truly matters. This project aligns closely with the Australian Curriculum’s emphasis on literacy, intercultural understanding, and personal and social capability, which support students to communicate meaningfully, reflect on identity and engage thoughtfully with others.

Three Core Writing Themes

This writing competition encourages students to think deeply about: gratitude, family history, family values, cultural identity, responsibility, belonging, community, and social impact.

Students may choose one of the following three directions:

Legacy & Inheritance

The stories that came before us — Write about family memories, earlier generations, cultural heritage, traditions, treasured objects, migration stories, or messages across time.

Family & Identity

The life we are living now — Reflect on family relationships, personal growth, language, culture, belonging, and how your family has shaped who you are.

Responsibility & Contribution

The future we are shaping — Explore responsibility, kindness, contribution, leadership, future thinking, and the world you hope to help create.

Recognition & Awards

This is more than a writing competition.

It is a thoughtful dialogue through words.

Submissions will be reviewed with attention to six key qualities:

  • Truth

  • Emotion

  • Story

  • Clarity

  • Insight

  • Impact

The competition will include:

  • Gold Award

  • Silver Award

  • Bronze Award

In addition, three special recognition awards will be offered:

  • Family Heritage Award

  • Most Impactful Expression Award

  • Community Contribution Award

Through these awards, we hope to recognise not only strong writing skills, but also sincere reflection, meaningful storytelling and thoughtful contribution.

Opportunities & Pathways

Outstanding submissions may be considered for further development opportunities.

Publication Inclusion

Selected works will be included in the official Family Tapestry Collection.

These published pieces will hold long-term archival value and become part of the Qs Family Tapestry project record.

Students whose work is selected for publication may also receive one-on-one writing refinement and feedback to further strengthen their writing.

Public Speaking Pathway

Selected students who demonstrate strong storytelling and speaking potential may be invited to receive structured training in story development and public speaking.

These students may have the opportunity to present their work on a formal TED-style stage in Term 3.

This pathway is designed to help students move from written expression to confident spoken communication.

Who Can Participate?

The competition is open to students across all 10 Qs campuses.

Eligible students:

Level 4 to VCE currently enrolled Qs students
