The transition into the secondary years can be exciting, but it can also bring new emotional, social and academic challenges.
Students in Year 7 and Year 8 are often learning how to manage heavier study demands, changing friendships, screen distractions, peer pressure and growing independence. For some students, this can lead to reduced confidence, emotional ups and downs, stress or difficulty communicating with parents.
To support students during this important stage, Qs School is offering the Qs SEL Holiday Program: Youth Emotional Management and Resilience.

Who Is This Program For?
This holiday program is suitable for students who may be experiencing:
Reduced interest or confidence in learning
Difficulty managing screen time or online distractions
Growing distance in parent-child communication
Friendship pressure or social relationship challenges
Emotional ups and downs, stress or worry
Difficulty expressing feelings or solving problems calmly
Social and emotional learning helps students build the skills they need to understand themselves, manage emotions, communicate with others and make responsible decisions. Research has found that well-designed SEL programs can support students’ social-emotional skills, behaviour, attitudes and academic outcomes.
For early secondary students, these skills are especially important. Adolescence is a period of rapid emotional, social and cognitive development, and young people often benefit from structured support as they learn to manage relationships, stress and independence.
What Students Will Learn
Through guided activities and psychologist-led learning, students will explore:
Emotional awareness and self-management
Stress management strategies
Confidence-building
Communication and interpersonal skills
Friendship and social problem-solving
Resilience and growth mindset
Practical strategies for handling pressure and setbacks
The program is designed to be supportive, practical and age-appropriate. Students will be encouraged to reflect, participate and practise skills they can use at school, at home and in friendships.
